We
have set up a safe and structured environment for persons with
autism, so as to provide high-level, specialized services.
Zoodohos
Pigi is a founding member of the Greek Society Of Care For
Autistic Persons. We have worked closely with the department
of Autism of Seven Sisters Day Care Centre, London, from 1992
to 1999. We are currently partners with St. Mark's Day Centre,
London, a member of the British Autism Society. We have also
been working closely with the University of Mons, School of
Orthopedagogics, Belgium, since 1992.
The
Department operates on a daily basis, from 08:00 to 15:00,
except Saturdays and Sundays.
It is housed in the facilities of Zoodohos Pigi, Nea Alikarnassos,
Heraklion.
It is staffed with specialized personnel, assessed through
training and evaluation seminars. The staff undergo continuing
training in Greece and abroad.
The
programme and training methods are based on the abilities
of each individual -determined through tests- and individualized
programmes after working closely with the parents. They include:

Urban Familiarization
Speech Therapy
Drama - therapy
Art - therapy
Ergo-therapy
Therapeutic Horse-riding
Swimming etc.
